Competencies for On-the-Job Trainers

Typical competencies for on-the-job trainers include the following:
- Gives effective feedback
- Uses effective coaching strategies
- Is flexible in adapting to the needs of trainees with different backgrounds, skills, and abilities, and with different behavioral and learning styles
- Demonstrates skill in verbal and nonverbal communication
- Demonstrates skill in organizational and time management
- Has credibility with peers as a result of expertise and professionalism
- Is able to conduct team job task analyses, write observable and measurable performance objectives, and prepare effective training modules
- Shows skill in evaluating trainee performance
- Possesses hands-on experience performing all tasks to be taught.
