The Most Frequent Uses of OJT Training Modules

TeamOJT Tip of the Month for May, 2007

The trainers and trainees use the modules to prepare for the training event by reviewing the module content and cover sheet (containing the performance objective, purpose of task, and any special instructions or safety precautions.). The modules are followed closely during training sessions to make sure nothing is omitted. Following the module also ensures that trainees follow the same steps regardless of who does the training. Trainees are encouraged to review and practice each task after the training session, and having the modules ready references makes that easy to do.

Although training is the obvious use for the modules, there are many other applications, including the following:
  • For employee retention, recruitment, termination, or reassignment before permanent hiring
  • For cross-training and multiskilling
  • For personal development
  • As manufacturer-provided materials on the inspection, repair, and maintenance of equipment
  • For process and procedure upgrades
  • For documentation for ISO certification
  • For training delivered through technology
  • To identify and meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Food and Drug Administration, and other regulatory requirements
  • As checklists for trainee evaluation and employee skill tests
  • To identify and develop for aids.
